This piece is carved by combining the traditional Edo Kiriko patterns "Yarai" and "Nanako". "Yarai" is the name for the shape of bamboo or logs intertwined in a staggered pattern. Yarai fences are used in the very first stages of castle construction and stage set making, so they have the meaning of "building the foundations of something" and "solidifying the base". "Nanako" refers to fish scales, which means "large in number", and by extension, represents "fertility" and "abundance". Both are very auspicious traditional patterns that have been loved since ancient times.
Edo Kiriko began in the Edo period and has been designated a traditional Japanese craft as a precious art that conveys the life of Edo to the present day. All pieces are handmade one by one by skilled craftsmen.
As all our products are hand-blown glass, there may be slight variations in size and color, and small air bubbles may remain, but this does not affect the quality.
