A new interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Solo piano recurrence for insomnia

The long-awaited re-release of Schlafen, a solo piano piece for insomnia inspired by Bach's Goldberg Variations. The aria from the Goldberg Variations by Henning Schmiedt deals with the same theme as the famous original version written by Bach ~ find rest in sleepless nights and hope that sleep will come ~ hence the song titles of his new album "Schlafen" form the flow of hypnosis sessions. Commissioned to record this piece for a light installation by Gerd Hof in Hamburg, Germany, Henning attempted a new and creative recording in the midst of an already plethora of great classics. This variation was created by a count who was suffering from insomnia and asked Bach to write a piece for him to listen to on sleepless nights. Henning focused on this topic and recorded his own variations. A microphone positioned as close as possible to the piano captures an intimate sound, emphasizing the noise and movement within the piano, while a muted upright piano plays softly and delicately, presenting the iconic classical gem in a completely different way. Insomnia music newly created by Henning. When the aria resounds again, the music paints the blue of dusk and lulls you into a comfortable sleep.

Henning Schmiedt Pianist, composer, and arranger from the former East Germany. From an early stage, he pioneered activities that transcended the boundaries of genres such as jazz, classical music, and world music. After being active in various jazz ensembles from the mid-1980s to the 1990s, he received the tremendous trust of Mikis Theodorakis, who is said to be the greatest Greek composer of the 20th century, and has served as music director and arranger for many years. He has won the German Jazz Award and the German Jazz Critics Award, and his unique arrangements and piano style, which have been admired by the famous conductor Kurt Masur, have received high praise from various quarters. After coming to Japan with EACH STORY last year, they will hold their first tour in eight years in February.
