The "Gosu Shosoin" series was created around 1960 and was inspired by the Shosoin treasures of Todaiji Temple. Its design, a beautiful fusion of Western tableware and Japanese elements, creates a serene and elegant table setting. The hand-painted, subdued indigo blue of the "Gosu" is complemented by the three-dimensional "Iromori" (color-filled lacquer) pattern, adding a touch of elegance. The edges are gold-plated, with a gosu line inside, enhancing the central design. Okura Touen's "Gosu" technique is created using the same method as the ancient gosu dyeing technique passed down throughout Japan. This technique requires great skill, as the painting is applied to unglazed pottery, which is difficult to repaint. Each piece is hand-painted by highly trained artisans. Similarly, the "Iromori" pattern is meticulously painted by artisans. "Gosu Shosoin" is produced in a dinner pattern, allowing for a wide variety of items.
