Kunozan Toshogu Shrine enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu as its deity, and is the founding shrine of all Toshogu shrines across Japan. Ieyasu, who founded the Edo Shogunate, spent his time as a shogun in Sunpu (present-day central Shizuoka City) and passed away in 1616 at the age of 75.
According to his will, his remains were buried on Mount Kuno (Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City), and later, by order of the second shogun, Hidetada, Kunozan Toshogu Shrine was built. The main hall and worship hall (one building) are designated as national treasures.
The Romon Gate (an important cultural property) is a two-story vermilion gate standing on top of stone steps next to the shrine office on the temple grounds. It is said to separate the secular world from the sacred area.
A plaque reading "Tosho Daigongen" hangs in the center, and on the frog legs there is a carving of a baku, a sacred beast that is considered a symbol of peace, welcoming visitors.
Inside the lattice door on the front side of the gate is a zuishin (attendant), and inside the kongou fence on the back side is a lion and a lion guardian dog.
This kit recreates the "Romon Gate" of Kunozan Toshogu Shrine along with the fantastic atmosphere of the special nighttime viewing "Tenka Taihei Bamboo Lanterns." The bamboo lanterns use LED lights.
The decorative metal fittings that enhance the luxurious appearance of the gate itself are etched. The lions and guardian lions are 3D digitalized and come in painted metal.
