"Edo Glass" refers to glass that is individually handcrafted by artisans, a traditional technique that dates back to the Edo period. The glass industry in Tokyo's Edo district is said to have begun in the early 18th century, with the production of mirrors, eyeglasses, wind chimes, and other items. Later, in the Meiji era, while preserving Edo-period techniques, new knowledge and techniques were introduced from Europe and the United States, and the industry developed into a regional industry through the Taisho and Showa periods. In 2002 (Heisei 14), it was designated a traditional craft of Tokyo, and in 2014 (Heisei 26), it was designated a traditional craft of Japan by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Edo Glass series from Taiburo Studio focuses on designs based on the komon patterns and ukiyo-e prints that have been beloved since the Edo period. We hope you enjoy our individually handmade "Edo Glass."
As all pieces are hand-blown glass, slight variations in size and color, as well as small bubbles, may occur, but this does not affect the quality. Thank you for your understanding.
