This exhibition covers all 46 works of Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" and all 55 works of Hiroshige's "Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" (Hoeido edition), masterpieces of reproduction art created through the astonishing skills of painters, carvers, and printers.
The beauty of the intricately carved lines in the woodblocks, the delicately rendered shades of color, and the delicate fibers of the washi paper are brought to life through cutting-edge technology - 2 billion pixel ultra-high-definition digital recording and 3D texture image processing.
Katsushika Hokusai, selected by the American magazine Life as one of the "100 Greatest People of the Last Millennium," and his masterpiece, "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," have garnered endless attention, with special exhibitions being held in various locations.
This book uses archival images from the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum's collection, renowned for its excellent condition and used as the basis for the design of new passports and the new 1,000-yen bill. The images are created using ultra-high-definition digital processing with 2 billion pixels, resulting in extremely high-quality content in both color and resolution. Meanwhile, Utagawa Hiroshige's "Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō," another ukiyo-e masterpiece on par with "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," is also created using high-resolution images based on the vivid colors of the Osaka Ukiyo-e Museum's collection, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty and delicate techniques of these two masterpieces.
The book also features a wealth of full-size drawings and detailed enlargements, making it a new way to enjoy art appreciation.
