This calendar takes you on a journey through the famous sites of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, illustrated by Utagawa Hiroshige.
Travel through Edo-period Japan as depicted by Utagawa Hiroshige!
Based on Jippensha Ikku's humorous book, Tokaido Chu Hizakurige, Utagawa Hiroshige's Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido is a series of paintings depicting the 53 post towns along the Tokaido from Edo to Kyoto. The paintings realistically depict scenes from Japanese life at the time, such as bustling markets, travelers resting, and the daily lives of local people. This calendar is a collection of beautiful woodblock prints that capture the customs and nature of the Edo period with unique compositions. You can also enjoy mini columns for each post town.
