Barry Allen's mother was murdered at a young age, and his father was imprisoned for the crime. As a child, Barry was taken in by Detective West, an investigator at the time, and grew up with his daughter, Iris. As an adult, he became a scientist and worked for the Central City Police Department as a CSI scientific investigator. He investigates the truth behind his mother's murder in order to clear his father's name. He also harbors a faint crush on his childhood friend, Iris.

One day, a particle accelerator explodes in the laboratory, and Barry is caught up in the explosion and falls into a coma. Awakening from a long slumber, he discovers he has superhuman healing powers and the ability to travel at lightning-fast speeds, like the Flash. He decides to fight evil as "The Flash." Wearing a crimson costume with a lightning bolt mark on his chest, he sprints at lightning speed while protecting those he cares about.
