[Product Description]
When photographing or filming at night, lights such as sodium lamps and mercury lamps in urban areas can affect the sky, causing the night sky to appear reddish overall. These lights are referred to as "light pollution." By properly cutting out this "light pollution," the filter can reproduce the natural colors of the night sky, and this type of filter is called a "Light Pollution Cut Filter." We want everyone who photographs starry skies and nightscapes to capture more beautiful images, which is why we developed the "Kenko Starry Night" light pollution cut filter for starry sky and nightscape photography.
"Starry Night" selectively cuts only specific wavelength ranges of light, reducing color cast caused by streetlights such as sodium and mercury lamps, and allows you to express the true colors of the night sky. Unlike traditional light pollution cut filters like "ASTRO LPR," it has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, making it suitable for ultra-wide-angle lenses commonly used in starry sky photography. The frame is designed to be thin to minimize vignetting, and it features knurled edges for easy handling, even outdoors. Made in Japan with trusted quality. *Please note that vignetting may occur depending on the lens.
Product Features
■ Light Pollution Cut Filter that Suppresses Color Cast from Urban Lighting
Urban night skies often appear yellow or orange due to streetlights such as sodium and mercury lamps. Using the "Starry Night" filter reduces this color cast, enabling natural color reproduction. When processing images in photo editing software, pre-cutting light pollution with this filter can reduce work steps and make RAW development easier. This filter is specifically designed for starry sky and nightscape photography.
■ Ideal for Starry Sky and Nightscape Photography
Unlike conventional light pollution cut filters, "Starry Night" has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens, and it prevents color shifting even with wide-angle lenses. Its thin frame design minimizes vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses, making it especially suitable for starry sky photography. It also performs well in nightscape shooting and time-lapse photography, where post-processing can be challenging.
■ Compatible with Auto White Balance
"Starry Night" is not a color-adjusting filter, so you can use it with auto white balance settings. Adjust the white balance manually if desired to suit your preferences.
■ Recommended for Use with Soft Filters
Layering "Starry Night" with soft filters that blur stars and highlight constellations can create more impactful images. The "Pro Softon" and "Pro Softon Clear" series are especially recommended. *Please note that stacking filters may cause vignetting or darkening around the edges of the image. Share your starry sky photos on social media with the hashtag "#StarryNightFilter".
