When the cuff pressure is increased to a level exceeding the systolic blood pressure and then gradually reduced, a pulsating phenomenon occurs, synchronized with the heartbeat. This pulsation starts small, increases as the pressure decreases, eventually reaching its maximum amplitude before decreasing again, forming a peak-shaped pattern. Oscillometric blood pressure monitors analyze this pulsation amplitude waveform information and cuff pressure using a microcomputer to determine the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
