“[Inden]" is a traditional Japanese craft with a history of over 400 years in Koshu (Yamanashi), featuring patterns applied to deerskin with lacquer. These leather products are made from processed deerskin, and are characterized by being dyed after tanning, followed by the application of lacquer to create patterns, rather than simply using tanned leather as is. Deerskin is softer than cowhide, has fine wrinkles called “shibo” on the surface, and has been prized since ancient times for its durability, lightness, and ability to conform to the body.
