Product Description The 360-year tradition of Kaga Hyakumangoku Kutani ware is primarily produced in Kanazawa, Kaga, and Nomi City in Ishikawa Prefecture, with Terai Town in Nomi City being known as "Kutani no Sato," the center of the industry. Craftsmen, kiln owners, wholesalers, and box makers gather here. Additionally, the pottery village features a museum dedicated to Kutani ware, a school (Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Training Center), and various support workshops. How Kutani Ware is Made - Shaping: Round items are shaped on a potter's wheel, while square or complex items are hand-formed. - Bisque Firing: Firing at approximately 800 degrees for 8 hours results in a skin color. This is followed by high-temperature firing at 1300 degrees for over 15 hours. - Overglaze Painting: After outlining with gosu, colors are applied using traditional Japanese paints. The colors change significantly before and after firing, making color mixing and matching quite challenging, showcasing the skill of the artisans! - Overglaze Kiln: This is the final step. Depending on the color, items are fired overnight at around 800 degrees. However, if gold or silver is used, they must be fired again in a gold kiln at 400-500 degrees. Can it be washed in a dishwasher? Repeated washing in a dishwasher may cause color fading, so please hand wash. Can it be used in a microwave? Items using gold or silver cannot be used. Others are usable. About Crackle Some items may have fine crackles in the base material. Enjoy the unique texture of the pottery. Is it made in Japan? It is 100% made in Japan. Products are sold from the center of "Kutani no Sato" in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
