Product Description The 360-year traditional beauty of Kaga Hyakumangoku Kutani ware is primarily produced in Kanazawa, Kaga, and Nomi City in Ishikawa Prefecture, with Terai Town in Nomi City known as "Kutani no Sato," the center of the industry. Craftsmen, kilns, wholesalers, and box makers gather here. Additionally, the pottery village is equipped with facilities such as a museum and a school (Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Training Center) and support workshops. How Kutani Ware is Made ■ Shaping Round shapes are created using a potter's wheel, while square shapes and figurines are made by hand. ■ Bisque Firing Fired at about 800 degrees for 8 hours, it turns skin color. After that, it is fired in a main kiln at a high temperature of 1300 degrees for over 15 hours. ■ Overglaze Painting On top of the bone drawing done with gosu, colors are applied using traditional Japanese paints. The colors of Kutani ware change significantly before and after firing, making color mixing and matching quite challenging, showcasing the skill of the craftsmen! ■ Overglaze Kiln This is the final process. Depending on the colors, it is fired overnight at around 800 degrees. However, if gold or silver is used, it must be fired again in a gold kiln (Nishiki kiln) at a low temperature of 400-500 degrees. Can it be washed in a dishwasher? Repeated washing in a dishwasher may cause color fading, so please hand wash. Can it be used in a microwave? Items that use gold or silver cannot be used. Others can be used. About Crackle Some items may have fine cracks known as "kannyu" in the base. Enjoy the unique texture of pottery. Is it made in Japan? It is 100% made in Japan. Products are sold from the center of "Kutani no Sato" in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
