Product Introduction
Beaver Corporation "1/72 Japanese Navy Super Yamato-class Battleship 51cm No. 1 Main Turret" plastic model.
The Super Yamato-class battleships were the No. 798 and No. 799 ships planned under the Fifth Replenishment Plan, conceived in the late 1930s.
These ships were not entirely new designs, but rather an enhanced and improved version of the Yamato-class battleships.
The original plan called for the Super Yamato-class battleships to be equipped with three triple 51cm turrets, but due to the difficulty of designing and manufacturing triple 51cm turrets, and to reduce weight, twin guns were adopted.
The main gun was developed under the name "Experimental Type 1 Gun," and by 1942, the main components, including the two barrels, were reportedly nearing completion.
However, as the importance of aircraft warfare in World War II was proven, the doctrine of big ships and big guns came to an end and the war situation worsened, leading to the cancellation of the construction plan for the Super Yamato-class battleships. Therefore, the ship was not completed until the end of the war.
Some documents state that the completed gun barrels were confiscated by the U.S. military after the war.
