Tanagura Castle celebrates 400 years since its construction! A tolerant feudal lord lives on in Tohoku's Little Kyoto.
The setting is present-day Tanagura Town, Higashishirakawa District, Fukushima Prefecture!
The first feudal lord was Tachibana Muneshige. The second was Niwa Nagashige. After Nagashige was transferred, Naito Nobuteru took over and completed Tanagura Castle.
The Naito clan's oppressive rule, due to financial difficulties, drew backlash from the domain's people, and they were transferred to the Tanaka Domain in Suruga Province. Starting with Ota Sukeharu, who became the next feudal lord, a succession of young feudal lords eventually came to be known as "the land of demotion."
However, Ota Sukeharu later held the important position of Osaka Castle Lord in the shogunate, and his successors, Matsudaira Takemoto and Matsudaira Yasuhide, the feudal lord at the end of the Edo period, also served as senior councilors.
Many of Tanagura's feudal lords steadily rose to power and rose through the ranks after being transferred, and their tolerant feudal lordship provided them with excellent support.
A story of a rich-hearted domain, seen through the learning of its samurai and subjects.
