The largest outdoor concert in history, The Beatles' Shea Stadium performance, is now available as an expanded 2-CD set [standard plastic case version]!
Shea Stadium (then known as Shea Stadium) is familiar to longtime fans, but the live audio heard there was later re-recorded and dubbed in the studio, resulting in extensive editing.
"SHAE STADIUM" (EGSH-0012), released by Eternal Grooves in 2017, was well-received for its "unedited, authentic live recordings." This new release is an expanded version that also includes the original broadcast audio and a live performance by the opening band.
It will be an essential item for anyone wanting to learn everything about this historic concert.
The North American performance in the summer of 1965 was an unprecedented stadium tour in rock history. 56,000 spectators packed the Shea Stadium performance on the first day, and the venue was filled with the cheers of Beatlemaniacs.
This large-scale concert, which everyone experienced for the first time, was captured on video, but the unexpectedly loud audience and deficiencies in the recording equipment at the time caused confusion in adjusting the balance of the vocals and instruments.
As a result, in January of the following year, they attempted to re-record the performance to match the footage in a studio in London. After much trial and error, the Shea Stadium Live video was completed and aired on television on the BBC in the UK and ABC in the US in 1966 and 1967.
Although the video was sold commercially in the 1970s, many fans now place more value in the actual performance than the edited and retouched final version.
Even if there were mistakes in the performance, it's the energy and rhythm that remain that give the live performance its realism.
You can even feel the emotions and excitement of the Beatles at the time.
Here, you can listen to the entire concert, featuring the Beatles' excited and passionate performance, on "unedited, authentic live recordings."
John's vocal volume was low, which was the reason for the rejection of "I Feel Fine," but aside from that, this is a fantastic performance full of energy and showcasing the band's groove.
Knowing this, listening to the edited version again makes it easier to understand The Beatles' intention to make the recording "listen comfortably to the general public."
The newly added opening act live performance is also very interesting.
Just as Japanese artists gave their all at the Budokan concert, at Shea, big-name artists like King Curtis perform Beatles medleys, signature songs, and even "Satisfaction" by their rivals, the Stones.
While waiting for The Beatles to appear, it's fun to listen to the opening band and get a feel for what the audience was like on August 15, 1965.
The Japanese liner notes are detailed, covering the situation at the time, anecdotes, the tracklist, and more.
